Private by design
LifeJourney has no servers of its own. Your journal, moods, and patterns stay on your device and in your private iCloud account. Every insight and prediction is computed on-device. We never see, access, sell, or share your data.
Introduction
LifeJourney ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our application for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Information we collect
You create and provide all of the content in LifeJourney, including:
- Journal entries, titles, and personal notes
- Mood logs across six dimensions (mood, sleep quality, alertness, calmness, patience, and motivation)
- Check-ins, habits, routines, and cycle & symptom tracking
- Photos, videos, audio recordings, and sketches you attach to entries
- Custom tags, categories, themes, fonts, and app preferences
You may also choose to connect optional integrations, described below, which bring additional context into your journal.
The Patterns engine and on-device analysis
LifeJourney's Patterns engine analyzes your own data to surface correlations, insights, and mood predictions — including which factors most influence how you feel.
- All analysis is performed entirely on your device
- No cloud processing and no third-party AI service is involved
- Your patterns and predictions never leave your device or private iCloud
Apple Intelligence
On supported devices, LifeJourney can use Apple Intelligence to automatically tag entries by theme, enable natural-language search of your journal, and generate summaries of your weeks, months, and years. These features are powered by Apple's on-device and Private Cloud Compute models, governed by Apple's privacy policy. Apple Intelligence features require a supported device and can be used at your discretion.
Data storage and security
Local storage
Your data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData, Apple's modern data persistence framework.
iCloud sync
- Data syncs only through your own private iCloud account
- iCloud data is encrypted by Apple
- We do not have access to your iCloud data
- You can disable iCloud sync in your device Settings
No external servers
- We do not operate any backend servers
- We do not store your data on any external databases
- We do not have access to your data
Third-party integrations
LifeJourney integrates with third-party services only with your explicit permission. All integration data is stored locally on your device and in your private iCloud account. We never share your data with third parties, and you can connect or disconnect any integration at any time.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
With your permission, we read the health metrics you authorize, which may include:
- Steps, exercise minutes, and mindfulness minutes
- Sleep, heart rate, resting heart rate, and HRV
- Weight measurements
- Cycle & symptom data for period tracking
Weight you enter manually may be written back to HealthKit. All HealthKit data stays on your device and in your iCloud Health data.
WHOOP
Connecting WHOOP uses the official WHOOP API with secure OAuth 2.0 authentication to access:
- Recovery and strain scores
- Sleep performance, stages, and quality metrics
- HRV, resting heart rate, and respiratory rate
- Workout and activity data (SpO2 and skin temperature on WHOOP 4.0)
Stored locally and synced to your private iCloud. We do not send data back to WHOOP. Disconnecting does not delete data already saved to your journal.
Last.fm
Connecting Last.fm lets LifeJourney show the music you listened to alongside your entries, including track titles, artists, and scrobble times.
Stored locally and synced to your private iCloud. You can disconnect at any time.
Trakt
Connecting Trakt accesses your movie and TV watch history to display in your timeline, including watch dates, titles, seasons, and episodes.
Stored locally and synced to your private iCloud. You can disconnect at any time.
Calendar
With your permission, LifeJourney reads your calendar to reflect how busy your day was — event counts and timing — as context for your journal and the Patterns engine.
Calendar details are read on-device to add context to your entries and are never shared.
Location & Weather
With your permission, we use your location to fetch current weather (and moon phase) for your entries. The resulting weather information is cached with the entry.
Location is used only in the moment to fetch weather, and is not stored or tracked.
How we use your information
We use your information solely to:
- Display your entries with their associated context and metrics
- Generate on-device charts, statistics, insights, and mood predictions
- Sync your data across your Apple devices via your private iCloud
- Provide personalized features based on your preferences and settings
We do NOT:
- Use your data for advertising
- Sell or rent your data
- Share your data with third parties
- Track your behavior or collect analytics
- Train AI models on your personal data
Your rights and control
Access and modify
- View all your data within the app
- Edit or delete any entry, mood, check-in, or measurement
- Export your data through your device's data export features
Integration control
- Connect or disconnect Apple Health, WHOOP, Last.fm, Trakt, or Calendar at any time
- Revoke location permissions at any time
Data deletion
- Delete individual entries or data points
- Clear all local data by uninstalling the app
- Manage iCloud data through your device Settings
Children's privacy
LifeJourney is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information through the app, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
Data retention
While the app is installed
Your data is retained on your device and in your iCloud account until you delete it.
After uninstalling
- Local data — automatically deleted from your device
- iCloud data — remains in your iCloud account, managed through your device Settings
- Third-party accounts — your WHOOP, Last.fm, and Trakt accounts remain unchanged
